X200s with XP Pro - Change to Vista? - Move Vista license

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Fri Jan 30, 2009 2:30 pm

Hi,

I am offered X200s 7466-3HU at an attractive price.
The specs as far as I found are:
SL9400 1.86
2GB 12.1" WXGA+
160GB 7200
Intel 5100
No Turbo Memory
6 Cell Battery
XP Pro

Now I want to know, where it says it comes with XP Pro. Does it also come with Vista CD in case one wishes to use Vista over XP ? in the Tabook it says the following:
Some: Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Vista® COA

I don't know what COA means ?

Also of major importance is the following question:

I already have bought Vista Ultimate but used all the licenses of it so if I try to install it again it won't let me.
My question is suppose I want to REMOVE the Vista Ultimate from my old X61s and install it on my X200s would that be possible? Please note the Vista Ultimate was not part of a bundle, I purchased the full retail version seperately after I bought the X61s.

Any help is appreciated.

You can move Vista Ultimate to the X200s, but you will most likely have to call MS and reactivate it. Also, the WinXP with Vista COA means that XP is installed. but you also have a license for Vista. Last I heard you can also get Vista media from Lenovo if you have this setup, but it may not come with the machine. Check over at the Lenovo forums. I remember seeing a thread there on it.

COA=Certificate of Authenticity, for reference see CoA at wiki. Physically, it´s a sticker that is supposed to be somewhere on the bottom of your ThinkPad, possibly under the battery, and includes a key, which, however, I believe you can´t use (in case you want to reinstall).
