How to create a recovery partition in a Thinkpad?

Hi,

I am just curious on how to do this and I believe I am in the right place to ask this question.

I have a recovery CD set for my model of Thinkpad (R31) but my original HDD had been replaced thus I do not have the recovery partition in my current HDD. Is it possible to create a recovery partition? If so, what are the steps and the tools involved.

Hi,

I am not really sure about the Recovery Partition on a R31. As far as I can remember, my good old T23 has no Recovery Partition, even I have a Recovery CD Set for it. And they are very similar.

But if you think so, backup all your personal data and preferences on a external media. And than put the first CD in your drive, restart your ThinkPad and push F12 while you are seeing the Bootscreen. Choose the CD drive to start from and follow the instructions.

If you have installed a working system and to play safe, make a complete image of your harddrive. Goes anything wrong you could restore the old system at least.

just insert the recovery cd in the cd rom and boot from the cd

and follow the on screen instructions..
as simple as that...

I could press F11 to start a recovery screen. Currently that does not work in my case. How do I make it work again.

Use the Recovery CD. They will install both on your ThinkPad, the partition with the Operating System and the one for recovering your system.

But be careful, this will delete your current system completely.
