Thinkpad 600X Error Code 191

#1 Post by Laptoplucknow » Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:33 pm

On a TP 600X 2645 9FU it boots to Error Code 191. It is 191FE to be exact. This is preventing me from entering the Setup menu. I have never had this stop code on any of my 600Es. The info i found states the error is caused by a failed cache controller test. The Hardware manual says error 191XX is a PM Initialization error, and the FRU at fault is the system board. I cannot find anything about PM Initialization. Can someone please point me in the right direction? This is my first 600X.

The CMOS battery tests at 3.01V A bad battery would give the 163 code before getting to 191.? Thanks for the link.

In agreement with Harryc, I have had the same problem with a plain 600. Once I replaced the cmos, error went away. As others can verify, a duff cmos battery gives unusual error codes.
Z61p (WUXGA)/2.16ghz/2gb/60gb, R51/1.8ghz/1gb/160gb, R40/1.5ghz/2gb/80gb, 600E/366mhz/416mb/20gb, Project R51 with SXGA+

I will try another Cmos battery instead of just testing it. When i tried to update the bios the process halts part way with the message: "Error The System Power Management is disabled. The process has been canceled." In the 600X manual code 191xx is PM initialization error so I have been trying to re-enable power management but i cannot get to the setup. Pressing different combinations of F1, ESC, F12, etc all send me back to the 191FE.

Here is a link to some (1mb) pictures of the problem i encounter on the 600X.

600X9FU 191FE :: PC Doctor shows this picture @ Photobucket.
Would the 600X disks that came with the notebook help in some way? Perhaps something was done to the machine while it was part of a network that prevents it from working or updating the bios as a stand alone unit?
One of the six pictures in the link shows when i try to flash the bios it stops with "system power management is disabled".

600X9FU 191FE :: Flashing the Bios picture. If only i could re enable system power management. It is clear to me that i am at a loss on this on so far. Thanks for looking though.
Edit: I think i need to do something with the slave controller or the slave controller firmware.
