video input from external source for R50e

I wanted to play Karaoke DVDs on an external Karaoke DVD player and use laptop screen. I recently bought the EasyCap USB 2.0 Video Adapetr and I have been able to install the driver Syntek STK1160. The device plugs into the USB port. However I can still not play anything through the computer. The driver seems to be for software for editing video from a movie camera. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem - linking an external DVD player to play through the laptop?

I think you'll need something like a TV capturing card, or try a firewire solution.
