Thinkpad i 1200 Series

#1 Post by dazone » Mon Feb 02, 2009 1:27 am

I am trying to help a friend out with her thinkpad. The os is completely gone and we tried to install an os, but the usb port didn't reconize the external floppy drive that I have. I wouldn't be opposed to buying a new external floppy drive for her but I'm not really sure what to get. HELP!!

More info would be nice.

I am not personally familiar with the i series 1200, but looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, one of the following should work. Before you buy a new FDD, first check in the BIOS setup menu that the floppy drive is first in the boot order.

FDD Module (USB)-TEAC 05K9283
FDD Module (USB)-Sony Ye-DATA 06P5221

If I'm not mistaken, the i1200 should also be able to boot from CD.

Before assuming that floppy drive is bad, try using it with a different computer to see if it reads disks.
