At max-performance & sustained load, where does your GPU top out?

What GPU Temps are YOU Seeing on Your T60p?

#1 Post by bmwman91 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:08 pm

Okie, I have been reading around just to see what normal T60p GPU temperatures are, and it seems that we are all-over the board (no pun intended). So, it is time for a poll. After voting, please post the following:

1) Laptop size (14.1" / 15" / widescreen)
2) Which GPU (V5200 / V5250 / etc)
3) If you have ever needed to replace your fan/heat sink, or removed it.

If you don't know how to monitor this, see the link below. When the program starts, it will take control of the fan. This can easily be changed right there by selecting the BIOS control option right on the main window. I edited the fancontrol.ini file to keep the BIOS in control when starting the program (change "ACTIVE=2" to "ACTIVE=1" in the file).

For me...
=====================
1) 15" UXGA
2) V5200
3) Never replaced, but it has been removed & reinstalled.

After ~5 minutes of running a fairly demanding demoscene, my GPU hit 91C. That seems a tad high to me.

70-80 degrees most graphics intensive apps
80-85 when running hardcore games

TP fancontrol takes 3-4 degrees off it though running manual 7

73 while typing this with firefox open.
107 while playing HL2, or Portal with maxed settings

It has been like this since the beginning, I pulled off the keyboard once and cleaned out that area after about 1 year of use. Doing this lowed the temps by 10 degrees. I was worried about it at first, but now I see it is normal for this particular laptop. It has had no negative effects on my machine. In addition I have never had a blue screen because of it.

I have the 5250 with the 14.1" 1400x1050. I let the Bios control the fan speed.

EDIT: I shut it down and blew into the air exhaust ports again(left rear) to take some of the dust off the copper fins, that dropped my temps by ~10 degrees. So now my temps are: 98 at load and 64 while typing this. So I am going to change my vote to fit that data.

1) 15”
2) V5200
3) Fan replaced 1 month ago because display going dark due to heat. Both cpu and gpu 100C.

After fan replacement, I run Boinc to control World Community Grid and Seti@home, both cpu’s 100% and display full screen with Seti@home display. CPU 69C, and GPU 77C
