T61 in docking station: undocking impossible

#1 Post by rmoe21 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:32 pm

My system: T61 with Win XP SP3, latest drivers and Bios.
When in the docking station, the computer cannot be undocked. The screen goes dark immediately while the compter is still running. No interaction possible any more. No errors in the event logs, although the computer can only be stopped by pressing the power button for some seconds. When trying soft shutdown by Win XP start button, the system freezes with screen on. When pressing hibernate or suspend buttons, the screen goes black all like above. I assume a driver problem but have no idea how to trace the problem. Appreciate all comments.

Don't quite understand what you are asking - are you saying if you just press the release button on the dock while the computer is running, it locks up? Or are you clicking <start><undock> and it locks up?

OP, can you confirm that your problems only arise when your machine is docked? I.e., everything works fine when not docked.

Keith: Yes, the problem arises only in the docking station.
All: Any button or software controlled action results in freezing the computer (generally with black screen).

I tested it immediately after docking the computer- no problem then.
But after working some time with the computer the problem starts.
(I assume that the system has performed an energy saving state between)

i think i had a similar problem initially when i first had my t60p..
the problem it seemed then was that the drivers pertaining to the eject utility somehow got corrupted..
initially running the lenovo system update did the trick, but later after few weeks, the problem started again..
i thought the drivers got rolled back or something like that..but later when i manually updated the driver, it works perfectly fine...and also the dock was owned by a friend of mine and he never had any such problem on a similar t60p
i know its strange, but thts wht happened with me@@

Sportfreak: thank you for answering. It is probably a simliar problem on my side, although I can't change the situation with updating my drivers.
All: I tried many things during the time- most important: now I found out that the docking station
can!!! free the computer if I configure the system to do so without caring for the computer state.
Anyway the system freezes, sometime screen on and mostly turning the screen black, the way like I decribed in my earlier posts. The only difference is that it happens when the system is put into powersave/hibernate or suspend to disk.
I am sure it must be a problem with ACPI and related drivers, but how can I track this down?
Has anybody a useful advice, how to do that? I tried the hidden XP utility "verifier" which delivered a bluescreen
after restart with Error: C4 (DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION), 1003 (Unexpected release: A resource has been released out of the proper order). Anyway, I can't find the driver belonging to the address of the resource "89FC1EA0". Also I don't know whether this issue is related to my former problem.
