Some Issues I'm Having

#1 Post by kduniverse » Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:27 pm

I seem to have a driver issue with Bluetooth. I'm not sure what it is, but Bluetooth LCAP Interface always gives an error. Anyone have a similar issue with this particular driver?

Also, my 5300 will drop randomly, and I won't be able to reconnect until a reboot. It just seems to shut off. Access connections crashes all the time, mainly when I switch locations. It won't connect, then when I try to open it, all hell breaks loose. Anyone with these issues? I'm not sure if they are related, or 2 seperate issues.

Any help is appreciated.

So have you tried to uninstall, reboot and reinstall the latest versions of the drivers that give you problems?

Bear with me here, as I'm not advanced at all when it comes to this.

I uninstalled Thinkpad Bluetooth from the Uninstall Programs. Restarted, then downloaded from Lenovo's site. I'm not sure what to do next.

Installation instructions are in the readme file from the same page you downloaded the driver on Lenovo's site. Generally speaking you have to double-click on the file you downloaded to extract the drivers to your hard drive. Installation instructions may vary from there.

Do the same with Access Connections as well, as it gives you problems too.

Ok, downloaded, but then when I looked to see what version I had, I couldn't find it.

The access connections, I've already done the uninstall/reinstall. I even delayed installing it to see if it worked better without it. I still had the loss of signal, then trouble reconnecting.

New issue. "Host process for windows services stopped working and was closed". Get that a few times per week. Just happened again tonight. What exactly does that mean?

Anyone?

The signal for the wireless wifi link 5300 just goes dead and there's no way to get it back or reset without restarting the computer. Is this a known issue with this card or just me? Would reinstalling drivers work?

With wireless, make sure that the driver setting (Device Manager) is set for maximum performance.
Make sure the Power Manager scheme for wireless is set for maximum performance.
Make sure Access Connections (if you are using it) is set for maximum performance.

If the latter two are set for wireless power saving, my experience (Intel 3945 card) is that it can turn off in the middle of your work and require a reboot. Once I had done as above, I have had no more wireless outages. The AC setting is somewhat buried but just review all the settings.

Just to what JDH mentioned: a symptom is the wifi LED light turning off. If that is the case, you definitely have to check out your power management settings as JDH suggested above.

With my last T43, I never had to mess around with these settings. They came set to max and never turn off. This T400 was maximum power saving. Device manaager was changed along with Power manager settings, and access connections. How much will that affect battery life? I'm guessing not much, but what do I know.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm sure this is what the issues were.

If anyone else has some input on the other issues I'm having, I'd really appreciate it too. Thanks again!

As for the power profiles, it makes in fact a great difference if you are running on high performance or on ultimate power saver when being on battery ;)
