My experience with 7 on my T500

#1 Post by lazuli » Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:07 am

first of all i use windows 7 as my primary OS on my gaming desktop, somehow i got spoiled by its performance/looks and i now hate to use xp on my T500.

my T500 came with vista business and an option to downgrade to xp. after downgrading (not a vista fan here), i decided to install windows 7 32bit confident that RnR would restore my system if something would go wrong. in a nutshell, here are my experiences with 7 on my system:

1. install went smooth and fast! i lost no files in the process
2. it disabled the hidden partition making RnR not show up on startup, i tried to edit partition tables to no avail
3. most of the xp/vista drivers from my previous factory install did not work resulting to a messy install with loads of buggy thinkvantage apps
4. ultranav, fingerprint scanner and the radeon 3650 refused to work properly
5. i ended up backing up all my files, (including the hidden partition) and installing w7 from scratch from a reformatted 160gb hard drive

after this new install, i downloaded the latest vista drivers from the lenovo site and now all (and i do mean ALL) of the laptop functions work excellently (save for hybrid graphics  ). i tried to play call of duty 4 but i got graphics corruption (dark sky in one mission), but it's probably because of my modded catalyst 9.1 drivers

one question though, if i should reinstall RnR 4.0 on 7 (presuming that it's compatible) and overwrite the files using the backup i made (after making it visible using a partition table tweak), can i get RnR back to working condition again? or is RnR not worth the hassle?

it is my first time to own a thinkpad and i would appreciate some feedback from you guys. thanks in advance!

I have installed on my W500 4062-A13 & can't get it to recognise the Lenovo Fingerprint software.

1. Did you get your T500 to finally work with the Lenovo Fingerprint Reader (I can't), and
2. Do you have any "undiscovered devices" in you device manager (I have two).

Thanks

David

yep I got the fingerprint software to work by uninstalling the stock lenovo drivers and downloading the beta drivers here:
http://www.authentec.com/win7beta32.cfm

i think i also know what you mean by those 2 stubborn unknown devices, just install the two intel AMT drivers from lenovo support and you'll be good to go!

Does anybody have a copy of the 64-bit windows 7 beta drivers? For some reason the link on authentec's website is broken, and nobody has mirrored them for some reason.
