How Much is Sharholders Discount?
How Much is Sharholders Discount?
Does anyone know how much percentage the IBM shareholders discount is? I'm thinking about getting a T43 when the new models come out next month. Right now the MasterCard, etc discount is 10 to 20%. How much better is the sharholders discount? Thanks.

Don't look at the model numbers so much as the components that comprise the entire system.frank99 wrote:and why i should buy a T42 for "only" 20% at the mastercard site when i get the new T43 also for 20% (also at the mastercard site)????
Well from what I've seen, the main difference seems to be that IBM has dropped the "ATI mobility Radeon" graphics chip in favor of an "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900" in the new T43.
I could be wrong, but last I checked ATI is the graphics leader, followed closely by Nvidia, and after that, everyone else is a distant third(Intel).
Basically, this will mean that the new T43 series will probably have a longer battery life at the expense of graphical performance. A T43 should be fine for web browsing, playing DVD's, etc, but don't expect it to play any of the newer games like a T42 can.
IBM will be offering the T43 later with the ATI X300. The availability date on the T43 with the X300 is in late Feb, which might be why they aren't showing up on the website yet. Check out the TABOOK linked on Bill's store page. It will tell you about every single T43 being offered and what month they will be available.etherealtml wrote:Don't look at the model numbers so much as the components that comprise the entire system.frank99 wrote:and why i should buy a T42 for "only" 20% at the mastercard site when i get the new T43 also for 20% (also at the mastercard site)????

The shareholder's price (SPP) is currently identical to the VISA/Mastercard pricing. It is 10 percent on most models, only higher on non-ThinkExpress models that have (what appears to be) an overpriced web price.

Yes, but a X300 isn't really fast
But the V3200 was also an option I saw?

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm still not sure I have a definitive answer to the question "how much is the sharholder's discount."
Aamsel stated above it is currently identical to the MasterCard discount. Is it ever higher? I vaguely recall some time ago reading that it might be as high as 1/3 off the regular price.
If it's always the same as the credit card discounts, I'd just as soon use them.

In my experience (here in Canada) the SPP percentage seems to vary but it's usually 10% to 20%. It's never been less than the standard credit card and other promotional discounts.JHEM wrote:I've been a stockholder for years (thanks Gramps!) and I don't recall it ever being more than about 20%.
