Upgrade bios without a floppy??

#1 Post by mdbrown » Sat Jun 05, 2004 6:30 pm

Anyone ever devise a way to do that? I don't have nor do I want a floppy drive but I'd like to update the bios on both of my 770xs and the 770.

If you have another PC equipped with a CD bunner, you can burn a bootable CD
out of the bios update disk and update the bios by booting from it.

BIOS Update

#4 Post by Bruce Guttman » Sun Jun 06, 2004 9:42 am

I think you still need SOME computer with a floppy drive. The BIOS updates, available from the IBM Web Site, are programs that write to a floppy; they don't do it any other way. Once you have creted the bootable floppy from the BIOS update, you can then transfer the files to CD via the burner.

Hope this helps.

I did a diskless bios update on my 600X. I downloaded the diskless version from the IBM driver matrix. Have you looked for your update in a diskless version?

I don't recall seeing "diskless" updates for the 770's.

they definately dont exist - i think because all 770 machine were originally shipped with a floppy drive. That is also why the 600x has a diskless version but the 600/600e dont

I have the same issue. I want to upgrade my thinkpad 600 bios but it doesn't have a floppy. Will this work: download the IBM SPSD and create the floppy. Copy the contents of the floppy to a CD and then boot from the CD.
