X60 Tablet Unauthorized minipci card

#1 Post by andrewwib » Thu Feb 05, 2009 4:34 am

Hello folks,
old chestnut I know but I see you folks seem to have sorted the unauthorized mini pci message. I thought swapping the standard 3945 abg for a 4965agn would be straight forward other than the addition of a third antennae. Delighted to find a third antennae already installed and neatly tucked away waiting for the addition of my nice new 4965. Somewhat disappointed to encounter the unauthorized message though.
Can you point me to a link for the whitelist fix, or is there a better way to get past this problem.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi and welcome to our Forum.

First for the bad news:
You posted this in the wrong forum (this one is for T6x, i.e. T60/p and T61/p)
Now for the good news:
The thread you probably want is indeed in the T6x forum: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=55837

You could do a no-1802 fix. Google "no-1802" and you should be able to find a bootable disk image. This will fix the whitelist error - however it will not usually allow you to use the Fn+F5 functionality anymore.

My recommendation: go to eBay and search "4965 ibm" or "4965 lenovo" or "4965 thinkpad". I paid $10 (after shipping) for a new Intel3945 card from Lenovo (ie. no 1802 error). The 4965 shouldn't cost too much more.

Cheers

yes, the 9mm SSD fits in the X220

Thanks for that, I must admit I thought a 4965 was a 4965, ho hum. I would prefer not to mod the BIOS because of later updates etc.
