I'm dual booting XP SP3 and W7 on a T42p. W7 installed without any problems, and recognized all my hardware. Beforehand I was dual booting XP and Vista. I'm happier with W7 than with Vista.
How can I enable more advanced battery control in W7? I'd like to be able to set at what percentage the charging begins - that dosn't seem to be a native capability in W7. I haven't yet installed any ThinkPad software, but I noticed that W7 automatically installed the ThinkPad Power Management Driver. I guess that's not sufficient for the battery options I want. What ThinkPad software would I need to install?
I'd also like to be able to check CPU temperature. Has anyone used any temperature sensing programs that work on a T42p in W7?

Re: Battery Charging and CPU Temperature on T42p with W7b
The software to control the battery parameters for the T42 is Battery MaxiMiser. Battery MaxiMiser is only made for XP and previous versions of Windows. Power Manager is the replacement program for the T43 and up. Some users have reported success using Power Manager on a pre-T43 ThinkPads with XP.
My guess would be to give Power Manager a shot. Not sure of how it would work in W7b.

EDIT: There's also TP Fan Control and Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) that you could try.

Re: Battery Charging and CPU Temperature on T42p with W7b
Power manager works in my T43p and Win7b but it doesn't allow creating new profiles, it is grey'ed out.
I loaded NHC and IE7 is running the 1.86Ghz CPU very hot, around 60 deg C plus. Closing IE7 it is at a normal 40 deg C plus.
