2 ways to use wireless on t41?

#1 Post by halfcard » Fri Jan 21, 2005 10:26 pm

hi, at the bottom i see a little monitor symbol, when i click it says "not configured for windows, change settings". also there is "11a/b/g" symbol, which brings up a 'find wlan' box and does make a connection.

do both of these do the same thing? is one better than the other? thanks. :)

IBM. Better interface, and in my experience, more stable.

I use a number (5) of networks, both wired and wireless and my experience is that the IBM access connections is the best thing since sliced bread - I do nothing and it simply connects me to the right network, with the right printer, each time I start the machine. Ok, so you have to set up a profile to begin with, but after that it's all automatic.

I have found the windows stuff to be a bit more stable. IBM was giving me some weird issues, and everything was up to date.

Windows just seems to be just as fast, and never gives the strange errors that I had encountered before.

I got confused with setting up profiles with Access Connection so I decided not to use it. I've used Windows to manage my wireless with no problem for over a year that I have used the T40p.
-T42p 2374-D03 with Pentium M 765 2.1GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 7k60 HDD, IBM 802.11 a/b/g II wireless, 6-cell battery, and no touchpad
-X61 Tablet 7764-CTO with 3GB RAM and 7k200 HDD
-W500 4061-CTO all stock
