POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
This only applies to the stickers that tell you the specs that you have. Such as a Windows XP or Vista sticker, Nvidia ext.
If you added stickers, explain in a post what stickers you have added.
1) Yes - I add stickers
2) Yes - I keep on stickers
3) No - I take off all stickers

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
Option 3 here...well that was the closest one. I pulled the ATI & WindowsXP stickers as they were starting to get ragged looking. The Centrino one is in good condition, and I don't mind it. I am thinking of removing it, though. The downside is that, when viewed from an angle, the black plastic has either worn differently there, or is a little darker, so you can tell there were stickers at one time.

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
Well I used to go the "remove when raggedy" route. In the future (because of the mark on the plastic that remains), I'd remove them right away.

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
The only stickers I leave in place are the IBM ThinkPad or now just ThinkPad ones. They go into a recess so they don't wear out. The others come off within days of receiving a new system. I don't do free advertising for Intel and especially not Microsoft.

I like the palmrest stickers, but I really hate the big fat Thinkvantage sticker on the LCD lid.

i remove all stickers to prevent staining. i don't add any stickers.
Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
I removed the palmrest stickers from my T41 back in the day as they were worn out. Now I have Centrino and WinXP ones on my T60 and I planned to keep them until they start look ugly but I might just take them off to minimize the mark on the plastic.
Btw, I've exchanged the IBM ThinkPad stickers for a new style ThinkPad Tseries ones. I like them better.
I would probably remove the ThinkVantage sticker if my ThinkPad had one.
I won't be adding any stickers.

I generally remove the stickers they came with and generally think that adding any other stickers to a ThinkPad is tantamount to drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa!

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
To get back on track here...
I keep stickers on for the resale value should I ever decide to trade up to a newer model (although that has never happened. I love all my TP's
). I did add a Vista sticker to my VAIO laptop when I upgraded it with the express upgrade. Partly for the same reason, but I have to admit to some desire to show off that I have something contemporary. Not that having XP is living in the dark ages, but it feels wrong to have stickers on that are incorrect.
I thought most seem to go the other route, but I do see these on eBay too, and I do like the TP logo a bit better than IBM. (Although I like both FAR better than Lenovo's)yak wrote:Btw, I've exchanged the IBM ThinkPad stickers for a new style ThinkPad Tseries ones. I like them better.

Yeah, thats the only good place to put stickers on a TP in my opinion.esquire wrote: I have a nice little Canadian flag sticker on the inside just above the keyboard.
I moved the Centrino and the ATI sticker there, but dumped the Windows sticker since it was tatty after a few days already.
The palmrest is the worst place for stickers anyway, they kept scratching my wrists.

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
I'm aware that most people here think the IBM ThinkPad stickers are/look better. I decided to replace them with the new style ThinkPad Tseries for several reasons:Radioguy wrote:I thought most seem to go the other route, but I do see these on eBay too, and I do like the TP logo a bit better than IBM. (Although I like both FAR better than Lenovo's).
I don't really like the "double-branding" (IBM on the stickers, lenovo under the LCD). The laptop was made by Lenovo so there should be a Lenovo logo only. The IBM stickers were left by Lenovo to make people aware that what they have is a former IBM product. I know the ThinkPad history well enough so I don't have to be reminded of this.
The new logo emphasizes the ThinkPad brand. This name is now the main part of the sticker and is the only thing you see if you don't look closely (making the Tseries letters barely visible was a great move). I'm proud of having a ThinkPad. This is the main thing, not who made it (as long as the quality is kept up, and it is).
The new logo is cleaner. Although when the T60 replaced my T41, I missed the stripes and gray function keys, now I like the T60 design (mostly black) better. The new logo plays nicely with it, being less colorful. I also like the red dot over the letter "i", plays nicely with the TrackPoint which was also emphasized on T60 since everything around it went black.
The last point may sound silly, but I also think the new sticker makes my T60 look "newer". Someone might think I have a 4:3 T61 here
Hmm, now I really think I should finally get rid of the Intel and Windows stickers. They kind of destroy the balance I talked about above.
Ok, that was a bit lengthy for a post about a sticker
EDIT: One more. With the new logo, my ThinkPad Bluetooth Mouse matches the notebook perfectly. It looks really cool laying on the side with the same black/red design and the same ThinkPad logo.

BTW, not all T60(p) units come with the Lenovo logo under the LCD. I don´t know though whether such models have ever been to find here in Germany, I haven´t seen any of this particular kind.
I couldn´t agree more! I have an USB ThinkPad travel mouse with the ThinkPad logo on it and it just doesn´t fit to the IBM logo as good as it would if my ThinkPad had the ThinkPad logo. I was looking for an USB ThinkPad Travelmouse with the IBM logo though (but got this one)...yak wrote:With the new logo, my ThinkPad Bluetooth Mouse matches the notebook perfectly. Regarding the stickers, I´m too going to remove them soon. In fact, by coincidence while typing this, the XP sticker got away almost by itself... I don´t use XP anyway.
BTW, I´m too missing the red stripes and grey keys. The first have returned within the new ThinkPad line, it will be soon time for the latter to return as well

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
I understand what you're saying, but aesthetically, the Lenovo logo is horrendous compared to the IBM logo. It really is ugly. It's not the name, but the italicized font. The IBM logo is great in blue, but the tricolor version is even better. It's not a IBM vs. lenovo issue, just aesthetics. Having the lenovo logo on the led plate is annoying but small enough to ignore.yak wrote:I don't really like the "double-branding" (IBM on the stickers, lenovo under the LCD). Again, I'm going to agree here, although it's not a "new" logo, just the series one brought forward. I wish lenovo was happy with that, but they went and crossed the line by recently adding their logo to the exterior as well on post T6x models. In my opinion, ruining the overall aesthetic of the black stealthy laptop. If they had to do it, they should have incorporated it into the same corner as the TP logo in a smaller size, or at least reduce its size in the opposite one, but they increased it to a huge proportion.yak wrote:The new logo emphasizes the ThinkPad brand. Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
IMHO it's not that bad (aesthetically) but true, IBM's is probably nicer. Still, I was more disturbed by the fact that I had a Lenovo product with an IBM logo, and that was what I mainly meant by "double-branding" (I used wrong words).Radioguy wrote:I understand what you're saying, but aesthetically, the Lenovo logo is horrendous compared to the IBM logo. The Lenovo logo on the clear plate doesn't really disturb me. I don't mind if it's there or not. I understand that they had to put their logo somewhere and that seems like one of the best places.
My use of "new" wasn't referring to the logo itself of course but to the sticker, the newer ThinkPad Tseries sticker that is. Again, wrong wording used. Sorry.Radioguy wrote:Again, I'm going to agree here, although it's not a "new" logo, just the series one brought forward. I have to agree about the Lenovo logo on the top of the lid but only judging from the photos, I had no chance yet to see a post T6x model live. IMHO they should stay with the small logo inside and instead of trying to promote their brand by putting a big one on the outside, they should stick to promoting the ThinkPad brand on the ThinkPad line. It's not like anyone buys ThinkPads because Lenovo makes them
By "IBM-branded" you mean "not-Lenovo-branded", right? There were no IBM-branded clear plates for T60, only ones with no logos or with Lenovo logo. AFAIK, all T61 came with the logo.Radioguy wrote:Are there IBM-branded clear plates for the T61? if so, I'd be interested in acquiring one.
Your only chance is probably to buy a no-logo T60 clear plate and make a T61 one from it by cutting the "T60" off and replacing it with "T61" from your current T61 clear plate. Not sure if you want it that much because even if it could be done, the place where both parts join would surely be visible.
Changing the topic a bit. I've finally removed the WinXP sticker. Good move. The laptop looks better. The Intel one ("Centrino Duo") is still on but I'm not sure if I should remove it because it still looks ok (not worn) and I'm afraid it will be more difficult to remove without leaving some moisture as it seems to be some foil covered paper sticker as opposite to the XP one which was made of plastic. Or am I wrong here? Anyone with experience can help me out?

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
Yesterday, after reading this thread, I actually removed all three stickers (XP, Intel, ATI) because they didn´t stand very firm on the palmrest anymore anyway. Then I cleaned the place with alcohol 95% to remove any remains of the glue. The ATI sticker was very friendly, most problems were caused, of course, by XP... But now it´s all clean and black and after some time of resting my palms on it, all traces have disappeared. So, I don´t think you will have problems with removing the other sticker.
BTW, if I happen to find a clear plate without the Lenovo logo, I too would replace my current one, because I find the lenovo logo under my screen so unaesthetically placed...

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
I agree that the Lenovo logo looks like it was designed by amateurs and that it debases the elegant design of ThinkPads. The IBM logo OTOH has stood the test of time.Marin85 wrote:BTW, if I happen to find a clear plate without the Lenovo logo, I too would replace my current one, because I find the lenovo logo under my screen so unaesthetically placed...
It seems to me that the Lenovo logo is just spray painted or stamped on the black plastic plate. It may be possible to carefully scrape it off with a sharp blade like an X-ACTO knife. Alternatively you could just cover the plate with a piece of black electrical tape.

Re: POLL: Do you keep or add stickers onto your Thinkpad?
Good idea. Actually I just remembered that when doing a BT upgrade to my T60 and replacing the clear plate I got one that had a dot next to the Lenovo logo, in the same color, of a size of the hole in the letter "o". I scrapped it off which made the clear plate transparent in this spot. I wanted to paint it black with a waterproof marker but for lack of one at that moment I simply used a black pen (got some ink from the back of the pen cartridge using a tooth pick). Of course I painted the back of the clear plate. This did it, now I'm not even able to say where the dot exactly was.hausman wrote:It seems to me that the Lenovo logo is just spray painted or stamped on the black plastic plate. I wonder how this would work for the whole logo.
I probably won't be trying this myself because as I said, I don't really mind having the logo there.
