A21p very nasty problem on readability whith new XP rel.

#1 Post by niga » Sun Feb 08, 2009 5:29 am

Hi all,
realy need your help!
What makes me crazy is that, after installation of a new W. XP pac. I can't read the characters on the screen of my A21 anymore. This to say: resolution is blocked to its max. value. No chance to reduce it from the standard setting up program. Characters are so small that you can read them only with a lens.
I can only enlarge specific characters for each appl. and each time I use it... :(
Notice that I had XP old rel. already installed on the same hw without any problem.

Thanks a lot for your help

Interesting. I don't have that problem with my A21p even with Win XP SP3. Are you saying that when you go into Display Properties, Settings tab, you can't change the Screen Resolution? Do you have the ATI drivers installed?

Have you run Lenovo System Update to make sure you have the latest video drivers? I realize they haven't been updated in years, however, you may have downgraded them when you went to SP3. (Lenovo System Update didn't come with the A21p originally but you can get it here, then install and run it. It works with A21p models.)

three things must be in place in order to have great text readability on an A21p (or any laptop for that matter)

1. After loading the new OS, such as XP, you must load the correct video drivers from the lenovo site (often a video card driver as well as a monitor INF file)

2. You must make sure to verify the display's native resolution and set it to that resolution in Display Properties (use 32 bit true color - 60Hz) - any other resolution is simulated and will look like crap.

3. For Windows machines, download the Cleartype Tuner utility from Microsoft and install and run it, picking the best looking text using the wizard.

Voila - perfect sharp text on any laptop including the A21p (even my 1600x1200 UXGA A21p is tack sharp!)
