Hi!
I have a Thinkpad X41 which shows the following symtoms:
- Blank screen when turned on
- Fan is starting properly when "on"-button is pressed
- Hard drive spins up when turned on (but no "read" sounds)
- ThinkLight does not work (Fn+PgUp)
- AC "hole" and VGA port gets hot when turned on for a while
Do anyone have any idea what component might be faulty here? Is there a short circuit somewhere on the motherboard?
Regards
Erik

Welcome to the forum.
If the Thinklight doesn't turn on anymore, it should be a cable problem. Can you see a very dim image on the LCD? You may need a light shining on the LCD to see it.

Thank yousjthinkpader wrote:Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately there is not even a dim image on the LCD. Both Thinklight and LCD went dead at the same time. There's no beep or anything when the computer is turned on, however the battery and power led is green.sjthinkpader wrote:If the Thinklight doesn't turn on anymore, it should be a cable problem. What about the VGA and DC-connector getting really hot, have this problem been noticed by anyone here before?

Try connecting the laptop to a monitor using the vga port. That should tell you whether its a cable or motherboard problem.
