I own two R series Thinkpads. One is a R50p and the other is a R52. Each machine has a separate drive with XP, Vista or Windows Server 2008. This is not multi-boot, but rather each drive is a separate operating system.
The operating systems were downloaded from Tech Net where I am a subscriber.
Each operating system on each drive is properly activated via Microsoft.
Would it be legal for me to sell the machines along with all three drives? I would not charge extra for the additional operating systems, but rather for the hardware. This would give the new owner the option to run either operating system by simply plugging in a different hard drive.
Any thoughts from more experienced users would be appreciated. I would not want a new owner to have licensing difficulties due to my ignorance of Microsoft's licensing policies from Tech Net.
Thanks...
Can I legally sell a ThinkPad with 3 operating systems?

To legally sell them with the operating systems I believe you need to sell them your keys for the operating systems.

Re: Can I legally sell a ThinkPad with 3 operating systems?
It all depends on the license agreement you accepted when you downloaded/installed the OSes from Tech Net. Most probably (though I'm guessing here as I don't know what license agreement you accepted), only you are allowed to use the OSes on your computer(s) and only as long as you are a subscriber of Tech Net. You probably have no rights to extend the usage rights to a third party.

It's been years, but I've worked at a few places that hadbasketb wrote:It all depends on the license agreement you accepted when you downloaded/installed the OSes from Tech Net. TechNet subscriptions, and this sounds right to me.
