melomaniacs needed - lookin for the name of a song [solved]

#1 Post by Marin85 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 9:17 pm

Hi all,
here is the story: a few years ago (maybe 5-6) I saw on TV a song that I had never seen or heard before and that I liked very much. The only problem is that I don´t know the name of the song or of the performer/band and I´m trying to find this song now but as of now with no success. I liked it very much because it had a very nice and somewhat untypical sound for a pop piece. Some more details I hope will help some of you to recognize it:

1. When I saw this song it was a hit on MtV. I believe I can limit the time span to 2001-2006.
2. It´s pop.
3. It´s telling about money, wealth or power or all of them (not exactly sure, but in this context, hypocrisy may also have been part of the message of that song).
4. The performer was female (I believe one of the famous female singers from our times but I might be well wrong here).
5. In the video she appears several times as a princess having a lot of jewelry on her and sitting in a throne (as a symbol for wealth etc), but also in other shapes suggesting the message of the song (-> see 3).

I understand that I´m asking almost the impossible, but I´m really desperate. Any suggestions or hints are greatly appreciated! :help:

Thanks in advance :)

Marin

I think you should provide some more data, unless you run into fan...

Although I have more-less big music collection I really don't know, but I'm not really into pop...

Provide more details, maybe someone knows...

Or google if you know lyrics (or part of it)...

Material Girl by Madonna?

EDIT: I guess my age is showing. I think I missed the time frame by a decade or two.

The first people that come to mind are Gwen Stefani/No Doubt and Pink.

Check out this page, where you can look at the top videos on MTv for whatever years you want:

Guys, thanks for all your replies. I don´t know how and why, but after starting this thread the name Shania Twain appeared very clearly in my mind, even though I have almost no idea of her songs... and I would have almost overseen it if I hadn´t looked at Ka-Ching... It´s definitely a very nice song, yet I´m not sure why I have been so dramatically fascinated by it. What is even more funny, there is no throne at all in the video, it´s funny how the brain can put different memory pieces together :D

While we are still on music topic, something soft from the hardcore world that actually sounds very classic Apocalyptical plays Metallica: Nothing else matters (I don´t like the video very much, but the music is simply teriffic).

@tfflivemb2: Great link! I´ve been looking for something like this the whole day :) Unfortunately, I can´t preview videos outside of U.S. Still, it´s perfect for reference :thumbs-UP:

Thanks again,

Marin

Wow, Shania Twain...um, that is country, not pop...lol

Anyway, there might be the same kind of link for CMT (Country Music Television). You might be able to look up their videos on YouTube...if that helps.

It´s country, really :? I found the song in Alphabet of the Pop ( ~60 GB collection of Pop of all times)... Honestly, it didn´t sound to me like Dolly Parton or Hank Williams

I sure hope she doesn't sound like Hank Williams.
[I know she doesn't, I've heard her sing before. IMO, she's kind of a crossover artist.]

Talk about a strange pairing, I see that Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin performed a duo with Alison Krauss of Union Station [bluegrass]. Apparently they were a hit at the Grammys! :P

Robert Plant, Alison Krauss Win Five Grammy Awards
Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) wrote:Robert Plant won more Grammy Awards collaborating with folk singer Alison Krauss than he did as a member of 1970s hard-rock powerhouse Led Zeppelin.

The duo took home five trophies, including for album of the year, at the music industry’s 51st annual ceremony last night at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

She is considered NEW country, unlike Hank Williams and Dolly Parton. I guess some might consider Shania more mainstream, than pop.
