Undervolting possible with Thinkpad X30?

#1 Post by virge » Tue Feb 10, 2009 4:36 am

Has anyone tried this and been successful?

Some background: I just swapped my X31 for my dad's X30 and I notice that the CPU and hard drive in this machine runs pretty hot. NHC consistently warns me that the HDD (5400 rpm) temp is equal to or above 55 degrees. I think part of the problem is the CPU temp. The memory has been upgraded to 1GB and an internal 802.11b/g (Broadcom) wireless card installed. I've cleaned out the fan and will check the thermal grease tomorrow.

In the meantime, I installed NHC in hopes of underclocking the CPU, but the options under that menu are greyed out! :| Any help is appreciated.

Try RMClock. I use NHC on all my laptops except the Vista laptop since NHC isn't supported that well in Vista.

I hope NHC comes out with a new version. There hasn't been a new release since 2007.

Thanks for that suggestion. I will check out RMclock as an alternative.

Do you know why NHC doesn't work for this model?

Update: Pulled the fan and cleaned off the old thermal paste. The old stuff looked fine, but I thought I'd replace it since it was already opened up. That solved the temperature issue. Now CPU and HDD temp seem to be stable at 46 degrees at idle. :)
