I am trying to fugure out 3 things

(1) can my T40 support a 14.1" sxga screen?

(2) would one of the following displays work?

(3) How hard is it to take the screen case apart and put it back together?

I imagine that if you did so, you'd have to upgrade the BIOS using one from the higher resolution model ThinkPads. That's assuming you can upgrade the LCD manually.
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult
Latitude E7250: i5 5300U 2.3ghz, 12gb RAM, 12" 1080p touch, 256gb SSD, Win 10

Upgrading the BIOS sounds all dangy and such but realistically do you have a phone number of a business that sells that BIOS? I would love to get in touch with a business that sells these BIOS, I know where to get the LCD replacements (SVGA+ 1400x1050)

YES, you need to buy the LCD and replace the LCD cable. Get also the new LCD inverter.

1) LCD panel SXGA+ (FRU 11P8348 or 11P8346)

2) LCD cable assembly SXGA+ (FRU 91P6787)

3) LCD inverter (FRU 26P8464)

and maybe just update the T40 embedded controller and bios to version 3.04 and 3.19

Hey THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Well, don't know if it works but I got a hunch you hit all the right tones. I know you need to change cables at minimal but the invertor is important for the new higher rez LCD screens. Plus the BIOS boot up update, just about sums it up all the necessary steps, can't think of anything else.

Certainly the M9 Radeon 9000 64MB card can handle 1400x1050 resolution.

QUESTION: My laptop is T42 not T40, does it make any difference in your recommended Part No.? My T42 is 2373-X95, similar to 2373-5TU.

Basically, X95 comes stock with Radeon 9000 64MB, 1024x768 LCD.
My Infiniti I-35 ran over it and cracked the LCD and really want to replace it with a higher resolution.

Thanks in Advance.

John

Now this gets hairy, if it is at all possible to purchase M10 128MB or 64MB (Radeon 9600) graphics board and replace the M9 64MB Radeon 9000??

That would really make my DAY!

Mmmmm, I am afraid not....

The GPU is soldered onto the Board, not socketed; you would have to get a new Motherboard with the desired ATI on it.

OK OK. Yeah, heard its like heart surgery, don't even try it. =D

But how about the T40 FRU number that is posted in this thread, will it also work for the T42 model? TYI.

As far as I know, all parts can work throughout all the T4X Series :)
