Printer Goes Offline

#1 Post by kduniverse » Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:51 pm

My printer goes offline and I can not figure out how to get it back online. I'm using Vista Business, on my T400. Any ideas? Right click does not show an option for going back online. Restarting does nothing.

Is this a network printer or a USB printer?

Sorry, it's a network printer connected wirelessly.

I have a USB printer connected to my Wireless Router/AP. Sometimes it quits working and I have to power off the router, then turn it back on. Normally I have to wait about 10 seconds after my network connection is restored before the printer is again usable.

Perhaps someone else can give you a more satisfying answer.

I don't have it setup with USB, just wirelessly. It works on 2 other computers, just the vista laptop shows offline.

Are you using or have you upgraded to Service Pack 1 in Vista? Some issues such as this are supposedly fixed in Service Pack 1.

EDIT: I read the following in another forum. It has to do with losing internet access in Windows 7 Beta. See if it works for you for getting your network printer access back..
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options
Under the "Connections" tab theres a button "LAN Settings" click it and tick the box "use a proxy server for your LAN" and "ok" out of it all. Then go back in and untick the box again.

Ok, I'm losing my mind with this machine. Every day there is something new. This printer issue is killing me! I've uninstalled all the software, and reinstalled everything to get the printer working, 5 times! Once the printer goes offline, there is no way to get it back. Then, it just dissapears from my pinter lists. Has anyone else had an issue with a wireless printer going offline or just dissapearing from the machine?

So far, unchecking "SNMP Status Enabled" has worked. Go figure.
