Has anyone used SyncBack
Has anyone used SyncBack
Has anyone used SyncBack? And if so, any thoughts.
I need it for a replacement for Windows Briefcase in Vista (which works but is dog slow) and a replacement for Offline Files (which fail as often as they work).
Thanks, .... JDH

Yes, I use it at work and at some clients networks for automated file copy. It just sets there and does it's job. Just like it should. As long as everything goes fine it gives no alerts. When something goes wrong (such as a network drive disappearing) it alerts you.

Robocopy comes native on Vista and Windows 7 beta. It's been hoarded for years by IT people, but this is a super fast and very reliable program. It requires simple batch file creation, which I think you would easily be able to do. Used it for years and years. It runs out of CMD.
SynkBack is terrific, but I do not sync (makes me confused and nervous) but as a backup it is super dooper. Easy to use GUI and very fast. If you use it please send them the thirty dollars or so for the Pro version....just as support for this superior program.
A new one I've tried is AllWays Sync. It is the first sync program that does not confuse me or make me feel nervous about "what is going where"? Freeware for non commercial use. It has a GUI that actually makes sense!
Briefcase in my experience was wretched and incomprehensible....
Re: Has anyone used SyncBack
I used Briefcase in XP for nearly five years and it was OK. Needed improvement, but entirely workable.
I tried Offline Files in Vista and I could not use my ledger from the Offline Folder. Scrapped instantly as worthless.
So I downloaded a trial of SyncBack Pro, and after I figured it out (an hour or so), I deleted my Document store (1.7Gb) and made a replica with SyncBack.
It works perfectly. It is blisteringly fast - it made a complete replica in only a few minutes (vs. over an hour for Briefcase) and synchronizes in about a minute. I did a complete verification with Total Commander before deleting the Briefcase replica and after creating the SyncBack replica. Perfect.
I purchased a license straightaway. Excellent Product. @mgo - you can use this for syncing with no issues.

Because I maintain four libraries (documents, multimedia, install files and music) I use Groups in SyncBack. Handy and reliable. I also use it to keep my MS Office dictionary updated when I move from machine to machine. (%appdata%\Microsoft\uproof) That applies to Word and OneNote as the .dic is the same for both. I keep the backup on D:\Documents\microsoftUProof.jdhurst wrote:I used Briefcase in XP for nearly five years and it was OK. Needed improvement, but entirely workable.

The SyncBack profile is %appdata%\Microsoft\uproof (source) D:\Documents\microsoftUProof (destination) and vice-versa.
Also, program updates are very easy to do, just run the new version's .exe and it will merge nicely with your existing profiles, etc. It appears one's license allows for unlimited version updates.
No, I do not work for 2Bright Sparks, just a fan. Enjoy.
Re: Has anyone used SyncBack
I figured out groups pretty quickly. I have 3 libraries on my host computer, so I made one folder on my ThinkPad, and used a Group with 3 profiles to replicate the entire thing. I am a fan now as well.
