W500 Turbo Memory Question

#1 Post by TxHaz » Sun Feb 15, 2009 1:13 am

I purchased the W500 with turbo memory and XP but someone told me that XP doesn't support turbo memory. As a result I went ahead and ran the recovery disks and changed the operating system to Vista Business. That resulted in all of the standard Lenovo drivers being downloaded with the exception of turbo memory. I downloaded the driver and installed it but my next issue is that I don't see the "Turbo Memory Dashboard", just "Intel Turbo Memory Console". The help file talks about the dashboard but there is no such program installed and I have checked the Lenovo and Intel websites but can't find an install program. Can anyone provide suggestions? Thanks

Hi, From what I have gathered, the dashboard (with pinning) only exists on the 4G Turbo memory.
There is a decent video on the intel website showing how turbo memory is supposed to work.

I have had my W500 on Vista, W7 and XP, and seemsW7 and Xp do not support it. It is a Vista only thing at this point.

I am very frustrated by Lenovo and Intel over my turbo memory. If I activate it.. my machine crashes.. not instantly, but every hour or so. If I uncheck the checkboxes in the software, it does not crash.
Lenovo's solution, has been very long and painful. They have replaced my W500 3 times.. and they all do the same thing. Their solution is to remove turbo memory. that is all.
Finally They sent me a faster spinning hard drive to make up for the intended improvement of the turbo memory.

I still wonder what Intel and Lenovo ever plan to do about this, I am quite convinced that my machine has a fundamental configuration problem and it is resolveable. I am running a 2.53Dual core processor, with 3G ram, and the upgraded display.I have integrated webcam and fingerprint, and the 5300 WIFI card. Pretty much every option checked off from Lenovo.
Can anyone out there confirm that they have a turbo memory W500 and it runs trouble free? please let me know if you can.
