T61 15.0 4:3 standard screen

#1 Post by demossmd » Sun Feb 15, 2009 8:52 pm

Hello Group,

I'm very familiar with the T series lineup. I have the IBM maintenance manuals for the entire T6x lineup. I currently own a 15.0 4:3 aspect ratio T43p which recently broke.

I use to think (and still do think) the last model IBM/Lenovo sold in a 15.0 4:3 aspect ratio was a T60/p (I'm aware of the T61/p 14.1" 4:3 aspect ratio laptops). I'm also aware of people putting a 14.1 4:3 aspect ratio motherboard into a T60/p notebook to gain the santa rosa platform, which is what I plan on doing.

However, searching online I've read what appears to be a discussion regarding IBM selling briefly selling a T61/p notebook with a 15.0 4:3 aspect ratio primarily with just an XGA screen. Those pages were of discussions from likely confused individuals. I've never seen such, however at the Lenovo Outlet I see about a dozen 15.0 laptops. Most claim to include a WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen, which tells me it's clearly a typo as there's no such resolution for 4:3 aspect ratio.

However, several have XGA and those that have XGA have a different part number which start with 645x or 646x. They were there last night and this morning yet are all sold one by one, but I'm just wondering if such a beast exists or whether it was a typo.

T61/p were never produced as 15" units with 4:3 ratio.

Furthermore, don't trust the Outlet descriptions. Units with model number starting in 64xx are 15.4" widescreens.

Hope this helps.
