Device with Questionmark but what is it?

#1 Post by jwege » Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:30 pm

Hi,

in my T42 completely set up from scratch, in the Control Panel, Device Manager, I do have one device that has obviously not correctly been installed yet / a driver connected to it, but I am having difficulties to identify what to install.

In the properties, it shows:

Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC

Which driver needs to be installed for that device (and what is it)?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Keying in 'Intel(R) 82801DBM LPC Interface Controller - 24CC' into Google and at least 10 pages of hits came up. Try doing the same and see if there is something there to assist you. :)

@killer: Yes, there are other users of Googls also! Not all the people apart from you are dummies or idiots. Tried at least 30 to 40 links I got as a result PRIOR to posting the question here (maybe other results than you, I am German and Google offers pretty much language specific results).

BUT I COULD NOT SOLVE MY PROBLEM YET.

I even ended up with website links to Intel's website where error 404 occurred.

@all: Please, IF someone knows what that device is and where to get the appropriate driver FOR T42 model, please help.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's the IBM Security Chip (Atmel TPM). The driver for the device is here:

Sorry, mate, I was genuinely trying to help. I have no idea what is causing the problem but that is quite normal. Someone might be along with better information, however, give me some detail.
What operating system are you using (Vista, XP, 2000, 98)?
Which Service Pack?
(It helps to put all this in your signature.)

Meanwhile try accessing this URL: http://www.xpvistaworld.com/intel_r_828 ... cc_502.htm

You should find the correct driver there.

Hi Killer, ok, did not realize the help ...

I am using XP Pro Version 2002, SP3 and I have tried everything so far, it seems to stay and stay.

The odd thing is that it does not even say WHAT it is. There is another biut it tells "fingerprint reader" which ) I have not installed yet.

The link you posted is a vista link. Sure that works for XP as well?

Thanks

Could be way off the mark here and I realise I'm 'ignoring' information from previous posts, but the usual reasons for a missing drivers question mark is the ACPI driver's missing.

Grab it from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... gxpeg.html

For the record all the common drivers are listed at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 55386.html

I think I may be way off here so apologies but maybe not...!

@Harryc:
Thanks for the hint.

It was that device - problem solved. I did oversee your first post when I read the answers from killer. Sorry for that.

@poshgeordie:
I knew that IBM site and I downloaded all the drivers from there. The Atmel Driver, however is not listed in mthe table there, and a search with the Intel Information(number) did not leave to that driver.

Again, thanks to all!
