Fan Control A31p

#1 Post by deSitter » Sat Feb 21, 2009 5:40 pm

Hello,

I want my fan to run full speed all the time. What's the best way to achieve that? Thanks in advance.

That's really not a good idea...

You should find out why your machine runs as hot as it does, and take it from there. For starters:

a) Clean the fan/heatsink from dust with compressed air. Should that fail to make a difference:

b) Replace the fan, and re-apply the thermal paste.

c) How many processes you have running on a freshly booted machine?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah I didn't like it either, but it worked! The temp is down to 58 when I'm not watching YouTube. I usually don't try to defeat hardware but in this case I thought it was prudent, as this system is getting a little long in the tooth. I just had it apart to change the system board and LCD unit and checked the dust in the fan and the sufficiency of thermal paste. It's always run hot but I just now became concerned. Never any weirdness associated with high temperature, other than not being able to put it on your lap in summer. I found a great program called TPFanControl and set all the temperature ranges above 65 to mode 0x40 so that the fan runs at 4800 RPM all the time when the CPU gets warm. It's so quiet even at full speed that no advantage is to be had on AC with this fan idling.
