ThinkPad T61/T61P UWB problem

#1 Post by arthurcorell » Mon Feb 23, 2009 7:21 pm

I have 2 T61p. Both has UWB( UltraWideBand Wireless USB adapter). The laptops are running Windows Vista x64 Business Edition with SP1.

If I put the laptop on the dock station, after a little bit while, Vista will tell me "USB device is not recognized". I can tell that USB device is the UWB card.

If I put the laptop into sleep mode or Hibernated mode, a few minutes after I open the lid, I will got a blue screen with "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER" message.

I had been talked to Microsoft Tech Support. They told me that it's some USB device driver casue this problem. Because I don't have the same problem if I boot the laptop into safemod.

After I talke to IBM tech support, they send me a new UWB card - same problem.

Does anyone here has the same problem? What's your solution?

I meet the same problem without using a dock! I don't think this is from the UMB itself. It's more like a problem of the southbridge. I think we need to change the motherboard.

I have the same problems with my laptop and I suspect that the UWB drivers are at fault: Ever since I got the laptop I had the disappearing device problem (“USB device is not recognized”), but I believe that the USB_BUG_CODE blue screen started after updating to the latest UWB drivers.

I have been trying to do some trouble shooting about a week ago and I disabled both WUSB devices (Lenovo WQST110) and since then I didn’t had any blue screens, but I also had to restart my laptop a few times, so my results are not conclusive.

If these are indeed driver related issues, I hope we could get an update soon, unfortunately WiQuest Communications went belly-up and its Bangalore operations were acquired by Staccato Communications (see here) – I am wandering what this means for the driver support. In any case, our contact point should be Lenovo.

It would be interesting to know how many other users are having these problems and if we can get Lenovo to get us a fix.
