Question on buying from ebay

#1 Post by JD24 » Mon Jan 24, 2005 10:18 am

I'm just lurking on ebay.com and i found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 99114&rd=1

Is there something wrong with this deal? I mean 1000$ is really cheap for this model.

Are there some points i have to look for if buying from ebay.com?

JD

PS: What does pre-approved mean?

EDIT: Uhmm, this seller is somehow suspicious he didn't sell anything
in the last past months.

seller "looks" o.k. Pre approved means you must email him first so he can approve you as a buyer.

100% scam. You can barely get a used T40 for that price.

Do NOT fall for this

I went through this with a seller a few weeks ago. I dutifully wrote to ask to be put on the bid list, then didn't hear anything until after the auction ended, at which point he wrote to say he could get a few of these machines from his supplier, and would I like one. I jumped at the chance, and we went back and forth on the details, with him assuring me all along that he wanted to be protected by making this a legit ebay auction. At the last moment, he said his paypal account wasn't working, so I'd have to send the money Western Union. I sent him the link to ebay's "never use Western Union" advice, and he sent back the most beautifully forged square trade and ebay pages, claiming he had deposited money with ebay and was bonded by them, was a member in good standing of square trade, etc. Meanwhile, ebay had informed me that the seller's ID had been hijacked.

I've already reported the item you posted to ebay.

BTW, something I just discovered in buying a T30 on ebay is that you can use escrow.com, ebay's approved escrow service, to mediate the transaction (assuming the seller is willing and you foot the 3-4% percent bill). Made the whole thing much less nervous-making.

Thank you nik for sharing your experience.
I just noticed that the item has been removed by ebay.com
