Ultranav tapping wont stay disabled PERMANENTLY
Tapping w/ the touchpad wont stay disabled. If I turn the t400 off then when I turn it on again, most of the time the tapping will be re-enabled-sometime it doesnt.
I need a remedy to keep it disabled forever.
I've looked far and high for a solution, but nothing even come close to permanent. I even tried deleting the registry key/disabling the key from startup and even from running but nothing (I restored the registry after deleting it doesnt change anything). Freaking thing wont stay disabled permanently.
One thread in the forum back in 04 (Trixie) also mentioned this problem, but got it hijacked by some stupid other problem and the whole thing died unanswered.
Im starting a new one because I have no fix for it, and I need one.
No stupid hijack, posting any other problems other than specified here please.
Thank you
Edit: My Ultranav's driver version is 11.1.21.2 dated Oct 6 08. It came bundled as it. The driver on Lenovo's only 11.2.21.0 dated Aug, 6 08.

If you are using Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 you might try the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service, and see if that helps.
You cannot use the above with Windows Vista.
Otherwise I suspect you will have to find the offending registry keys - which may be located in more than one place in the registry - and make sure all the keys related to enabling/disabling tapping have the same value.
For example, you may find the same keys in the different registry hives below (taken from regedit in XP)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG
One final solution would be to not use the TouchPad at all and just use the TrackPoint. I believe you should be able to disable the TouchPad in the BIOS. At least I can do this on my T42.

not trying to hijack the thread, but maybe the solutions are the same,
i can't get the ultranav to stay out of the system tray, everytime i reboot it comes back. i'll probably end up starting a new thread for this unless we find an answer!

Just a speculation: when custom-installing Lenovo Power Manager, there is an option if the battery gauge should appear in the taskbar. If this option is disabled during the install, there is no chance to make the battery gauge appear in the taskbar unless reinstalling PM. Something similar might apply to the ultranav, so you may want to try custom-reinstalling it.

Take a look at my last post in this thread; it was the only solution I found:

Re: Ultranav tapping wont stay disabled PERMANENTLY
Like I've said above. I've try disabling in the CP/Mouse/etc path. I've tried using the Fn+wat/ever F that open up Lenovo's built in Ultranav access to disabled the Tapping (just though different path to disabling it would change something). I've also mess around w/ the registry. I havent try reinstall the driver because like I mentioned above, according to Device Manager, the version of Ultranav I have built in right now is actually higher (later) than the one available on Lenovo's website.
My annoyance repeats itself usually when I turn it off for the weekend then turn it on again on Monday.
Maybe I should repair reinstall it something. Can you do that in the Res&Recover feature?
To the system tray prob. Run: msconfig/ startup and look for the one out of place execute that you think might be responsible for the tray. If already done that but nothing, then try looking in the Service list (same msconfig) for something related to Ultranav Sys Tray. If there is one, then disable the service.

Re: Ultranav tapping wont stay disabled PERMANENTLY
I can tell you from experience nothing is going to work except uninstalling the Ultranav driver and letting Windows use its "generic" equivalent.

Re: Ultranav tapping wont stay disabled PERMANENTLY
I've been wanting to ditch as much thinkvantage software bs possible, but i will i lose the basic functions of scrolling up/down on the right and left/right across the bottom? That and the red rubber dot in conjunction with the middle mouse button? I don't need any of the fancier functions.Trixie wrote:I can tell you from experience nothing is going to work except uninstalling the Ultranav driver and letting Windows use its "generic" equivalent.

Re: Ultranav tapping wont stay disabled PERMANENTLY
@allen: I would suggest your to keep the UltraNav driver (UtraNav wizard and UltraNav utility are not really needed). Thus you will be able to adjust the sensitivity/speed of the trackpoint, otherwise it may turn unusuable to you. Not installing the UltraNav utility has the advantage that pressing Fn+F8 will call windows mouse properties where all mouse, trackpoint and trackpad settings can be found in one
