What to do with my old A31?

#1 Post by tbessie » Wed Feb 25, 2009 5:20 pm

I have an old A31 that I have retired; I just need to take out one or both of the hard drives in it.

I'm unsure what to do with it - it is a beloved old workhorse, but I wonder if I could find much of a resale market for it. I suppose I could sell it here or on eBay for spare parts. The other idea I had was to donate it to one of those charity computer recycler businesses, but I don' t know if they'd know what to do with it.

Any suggestions?

If you donate it, chances are that it will end up in the hands of a reseller.

You can always post an ad here, and donate the money from sale if you feel like it...

My (reseller's) two cents only...

Thanks much! I would *hope* that a donated computer would go to some nonprofit or kids or whatever... it would be sad if someone along the chain were trying to make a profit from it. :-(

Well, if the machine is worth $100 to the end user, person in charge at the recycling place would normally offer it for $30 to his/hers local reseller of choice...

Whether everything would go to "the cause" depends on one's ethics...

Not-for-profit organizations have been a gold mine for guys like me for years...

They don't want to do eBay or have a local auction, hence "the chain"...

And I've personally known several people who lost their jobs for pocketing the money...

That's the ONLY reason why I've given you the advice that I have...

Well, thanks for letting me know how things sometimes work.
I'm a little innocent about these kinds of things, and tend to believe that everyone's working in good faith. No good reason to believe that, I just hope against hope. :-)
