Hi guys,
I bought a used X41 a few months ago, specifically for using when travelling long and far.
Now I am on a bicycle trip in Thailand - Laos. The X41 has worked well but a couple of weeks
ago when I rode rather fast over a downhill stretch of bad road in N Laos the LCD panel
cracked. I have my stuff in rear bike panniers and have no rear suspension.
The machine still works fine but the crack has since extended, and there are some "ink blots"
that seem to come and go, grow and shrink.
What material is it that has actually cracked, glass?
Is it likely to collapse altogether?
Is there anything I can do to keep it alive another month on the road?
NB My Q's here are of a technical nature and can not be answered by any statement containing the word ebay.

Nice way to go !Lars wrote:Now I am on a bicycle trip in Thailand - Laos.
The LCD is made up of a series of layers - I'd say you have cracked the external covering. The "ink blots" are the TFT that are not responding to the control voltages. Good luck keeping it together until you can fit a replacement. You may find one in Thailand - and a complete lid/LCD swap is an easy job. The hardware maintenance manual is on the Lenovo website. The machine still works fine but the crack has since extended, and there are some "ink blots" that seem to come and go, grow and shrink.

Well the real external layer is soft, and that is not cracked. It is somewhere underneath, fasterbybike wrote: The LCD is made up of a series of layers - I'd say you have cracked the external covering.
a harder layer, plastic or glass.
I had not even thought of replacing it while out here, maybe i should. Getting a new one
would most likely be cheaper here.
Thanks for replying.
