Lower X300 CPU Temperature / Thermal Grease

#1 Post by akao » Fri Feb 27, 2009 1:10 am

Hi.

My X300 has always run a bit hotter than I would like. Recently, even keyboard bezel would burn whenever the CPU was pegged for a few minutes. RMClock and SpeedFan reported the CPU temperature at over 80C at load, and an idle of around 60.

I tried replacing the existing thermal grease with Arctic Silver 5 a few months ago, but that didn't lower the temperature. I did some research, and it seemed that laptop heatsinks can have poorer contact than desktop heatsinks. So I tried again, but with a much larger larger gob -- about 3 grains of rice worth. My temperature is now at 58C load! That's over 22C drop in temperature. It's shockingly cool now.

Hope this helps others with hot X300's.

Cheers.

These were definitely very high temps for an UV cpu. My T7400 runs at such temps...
