WTB: Thinkpad for aunt (but first, a question)

#1 Post by usernotabuser » Fri Feb 27, 2009 2:11 pm

Haven't been around for a while, but here's the deal, first off, I'm a good buyer/customer and have had positive experiences buying a few odds and ends from Harryc (dock/powersupply/cd drive/etc) and 2 t42 Flexviews from Brad. So, I'm back...

I'm currently looking for a nice thinkpad for my aunt who recently started back to school after being granted membership at a local indian tribe which, in turn, is very helpful with the financial necessities surrounding said choice. Basically, they'll pay up to a certain amount for school supplies, including computer stuff.

So, I've got her finding out more information about what constitutes a "reimbursable transaction". The only information she has for me at the moment is that she will "need a receipt that has her name on it". Well... I didn't want to state the obvious but anyone, anywhere can issue a handwritten receipt for anything. I told her to call the tribal people and try to find out if she would be ok getting reimbursed for an internet style transaction, such as buying from one of the members here (or ebay, or some such).

Anyway, I'd appreciate any input on the issue if anyone's been there before and also if any of the sellers here actually operate as a "business" instead of just person to person transactions. I'm pretty ignorant of that aspect of it, so be kind if that's a dumb question.

In the meantime I'm going to surf around and see what's available in the price/tech range she's looking for but if anyone has a moderately to low priced laptop (sub $600 for sure, ~$400 range even better) in very good to pristine condition (warranty remaining is a plus but by no means required if the seller is well known) that's at the appropriate tech level for her, I'd be glad to see a link or hear about it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention she is looking for a vista OS... she's very tech inept and her desktop has vista so it'd probably make her life that much easier. I could install vista for her but would much prefer it to come that way.

Thanks as always,
D

If running Vista is a requirement, your best bets are T60/R60/Z61...anything older might have an issue with it, and generally haven't come with Vista to begin with. Plenty of these can be found in your desired price range.

A printed bill of sale, notarized if need be, should be more than enough...
