Looking for PCMCIA/ExpressCard-to-USB adapter for my T41
The USB ports on my T41 have operated only at slow speeds (seems like USB 1.1 instead of 2.x) for some time, regardless of which OS I boot (WinXP SP2 or Ubuntu), and even after refreshing my WinXP image back to a known, stable version (via Acronis Trueimage). I therefore suspect my USB hardware interface has somehow gone "bad." Any other suggestions welcome for a speed upgrade!
In the meantime, I'm hunting for a PCMCI/ExpressCard-to-USB converter that is known to work well (especially with the Windows software drivers) for a T4x Windows system. Any suggestions?
Alas, it may be unlikely that anyone here has experience with such a thing, given that it's probably rare that anyone else has experience a USB problem like mine.

Ah, guess again......... does this sound like your problem?mattengland wrote:Alas, it may be unlikely that anyone here has experience with such a thing, given that it's probably rare that anyone else has experience a USB problem like mine.
EDIT: if the SB is not fried but loose, either Superior Reball or Jamiphar may be able to help. They mostly fix loose GPU chips but may be able to do something with SB chips too.

Re: Looking for PCMCIA/ExpressCard-to-USB adapter for my T41
Excellent, great info, thanks! I'll be researching later to see if I can fix it on my own, and/or seek help from the folks you suggest.
In the event that it's truly a hardware/board/chip problem, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for a "quick fix" USB-via-pcmcia approach (I also have a pcmcia-to-ExpressCard converter, so an ExpressCard solution will work as well).
I tried one of these, and the software/driver messed up my USB system horribly...and didn't work at all. I had to re-image my WinXPProSP2 back to a good state to get it to work again.
Thoughts?

I have a T41 with e same problem. I bought a BUSlink model Ull-CB4, If I remember correctly, I didnt load any drivers it just found it and worked. That said, even if I did use the drivers it came with it works fine. I have only had one problem and that was with a Netgear USB Type N wireless adaptor. In order for the adaptor to work correctly, I had to use the AC adaptor for the PCMCI card.In the meantime, I'm hunting for a PCMCI/ExpressCard-to-USB converter that is known to work well (especially with the Windows software drivers) for a T4x Windows system. Good Luck

I have two T42p machines and both have dead USB ports. I got a pair of these: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14848
Pluged them in, XP saw them & installed the drivers - they use a NEC chip. Don't look at the picture on the box, the adapter actually fits flush with the side of the computer. Have also seen similar on eBay for about the same price.
