I installed some MS Windos XP updates, and noticed that my machine (T43p) was getting VERY warm, as if something new was running furiously in it. I tried to use System Restore to roll things back, but the restore points failed-- I was unable to install ANY of the 10 or more restore points. I then started installing Lenovo updates on my laptop, and found that I lost my wireless network connection. After a few hours of trials and errors (my warranty, of course, had just expired two months ago..), I discovered that the culprit is Access Connection. If I remove it, I can connect to the wireless connection without trouble, but installing it makes the machine blind to the wireless signal.
I sort of got used to the convenience of using AC, so if anyone could tell me how to restore Access Connection and still detect the wireless signal, that will be very nice. After all, without wifi, I have no use for Access Connection.
Thanks
Access COnnection kills wireless network connection
Re: Access COnnection kills wireless network connection
Check the Access Connections documentation for the driver level required. Download the driver for your machine. Then, Uninstall Access Connections and restart. Update the wireless driver (requires restart) and then re-install Access Connections. Should work. Set up a profile and make sure everything is properly set up. .... JDH
Re: Access COnnection kills wireless network connection
Before posting my original post, I had uninstalled the Wireless driver and Access Connection.. I then re-installed the latest (Jan 2009) wireless driver, and re-installed the latest (5.2, I think) Access Connection. Before I installed Access Connection the WiFi worked fine (using the Windows XP utility). After installing Access Connection (which required installing a HUGE upgrade to .Net 3.XX), the Thinkpad reports: "No networks found".
Access Connection is, therefore, a WiFi killer-- at least on my machine.

Re: Access COnnection kills wireless network connection
You could always try an earlier version. They are still available on the Access Connections website. I got as far as V4.42 on XP Pro with my IBM T41 and 11 a/b/g Atheros card and that combination worked terrifically well. I now have AC V5.20 on Vista Business 64-bit with my IBM T61p and Intel 3945 card. This latter combination works very, very well. .... JDH
