Difference between infrared and Bluetooth (t41) ?

hi, i'm confused. are these 2 different things? do they use the same hardware (like that little black tab on the lower left front of the case)? thanks :)

no, that's the infrared port. There is no "port" for Bluetooth; it is a radio signal with a built in ( you can't see it) antenna.

The little black window on the front left of your Thinkpad is IR, which can transmit data only by line-of-sight. So you have to have the receiving device within a certain range and nothing can block it to work. BT operates on a radio frequency, and although it too has a certain operating range, it can be much further than IR and does not require a certain LOS. Also, BT has much higher bandwidth, thus it is faster in most cases. Hope that answers your questions (and I hope I'm right :P )
