The average shelf life of a Thinkpad (esp. the X61s)

#1 Post by Philippe Laurichesse » Tue Mar 03, 2009 3:27 pm

Does anyone have thoughts on how much longer the X61s will be sold by Lenovo ? How long have the different models of the X series remained on the market in the past ? Is a rough average possible ? What about the other Thinkpad series ?

(Tried a search for this, but if someone has already asked a similar question in the past, a heads-up would be appreciated, of course.)

Supply and Demand is the usual factor in any decision over how long these things stay on sale.

If nobody buys and loads have been made then they'll be around for years ... at ever decreasing prices.

If loads of people buy and few have been made then they will sell out quickly.

It looks like pure economics, IMO.

I'd imagine they'll be history on the US market by mid-year. However, they might be available for a longer time in Europe, as was the case with IPS versions of T60...

If it fits your needs and budget, buy it now. They won't get much cheaper than they already are.
