screen going blank, keeps searching for external monitor

My Thinkpad X60 monitor keeps going blank and searches for an external monitor even though there is no external monitor connected to the X60 laptop. Have to keep pressing Fn+F7 to switch back.
Is there a setting that I am missing or should change.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP3.

Need any info thank you.
