Thinklight differences.

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Tue Jan 25, 2005 2:40 am

I have a 'thinklight' on my T30 which is more towards the right than the center. I know a T41 has its light in the center. Is there any difference in illumination between the two positions?
Im assuming the light doesnt take much power as I light to use it during those night flights.

My T22 has the light to the left of center. I think the position is only slightly troublesome, if you will, for illuminating the keyboard in dim situations, as light is reduced in brightness as you get further from the source. So yes being off center will put a little less light on the opposite side of the keyboard, but prolly nothing worth being concerned about.

As for the actual lamp, I am assuming due to light color, lack of heat generated, and seeming low power drain it is an LED, and should offer quite a lot of useful light for a long time considering there are other things that eat the battery in comparison.

My T23 also has it's light on the left side, above the F5 key. It does a good job of illuminating the whole keyboard though.

I dont get what is the point on positioning it at an off center position. If IBM decided to install a light why not put it in the center. Im assuming there is an intrusion of some sort preventing the light from being installed in the center.

In the T2X and T30 series machines the display has an UltraPort connector on the top which precludes centering the ThinkLight.

It doesn't matter that the LCD is offcenter, the light is properly aimed to illuminate the entire keyboard.

The ThinkLight might be in the center on the T4xs, but it's also got a different shroud shape and shines out into your eyes more instead of just down at the keyboard. It's much more annoying than my T22s ThinkLight was. Dunno about the T30s.

Maybe they wanted to make sure the trackpad got illuminated too.

Oh well. Better than nothing.

I think the T30 is the opposite of the T2x, meaning on one side or another. I did remember the T41 light did shine on my eyes, and I can imagine it getting annoying quick. The light on my T30 does it job without shining in my eyes so I am good.
