WinDVD Windows Media Lockup with DVD Movie

#1 Post by schen » Tue Jan 25, 2005 3:02 pm

Let me describe my system first: T22 upgraded with 40Gb HDD, 512Mb RAM, SXGA Screen running Windows XPP SP2. I've been using the WinDVD decoder for some time on all my family's ThinkPads (5 of various As and Ts) with good success. However, my personal T22 went on the fritz with this software freezing up within a minute or so of playback. The machine locks up and requires a hard-reboot. I've uninstalled both the Windows Media Player (10) as well as WinDVD (which has been reinstalled), but I get the same result.

I'd appreciate any thoughs on this issue.

Stan
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I had a similar problem with T42p playing DVDs in BSPlayer. Sometimes it just froze and all I could do was shut it down. I took it back (still in warranty) and I didn't even had to explain much, the guy said he'll replace the whole CD/DVD drive. I'm waiting for it now. Obviously the problem wasn't with software at all. From his reaction I guessed it's quite a common problem.
