W500 and trackpoint scrolling
W500 and trackpoint scrolling
From what I read, there is a way to get the scrolling to work for some of the applications where scrolling usually does not.
For example, Apple's Safari browser and MSN messenger programs do not work with trackpoint scrolling.
Does anyone know what to modify to get scrolling to work with more applications on a W500?
let me know please

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
To my best knowledge that´s not possible in windows (but it is possible in linux to some extent). I´m also interested in finding a solution to this problem, but as of now everything is up to Lenovo. Over the last 2 years they managed to extend the scrolling functionality to different applications.

I agree with you, based on my experience I have not achieved functionality in windows. However conversely, I have it working in Ubuntu 8.10.Marin85 wrote:<snip> To my best knowledge that´s not possible in windows (but it is possible in linux to some extent).<snip>

Hi,
Please try the following:
Open folder C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP
backup file TP4table.dat
Open TP4table.dat with notepad
Under the Pass 0 section add the following:
; <application name>
*,*,<applicationname>.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9
(replace <applicationname>.exe with the name of the executable)
Terminate the following processes: SynTPEnh.exe, SynTPLpr.exe and restart SynTPEnh.exe (or reboot).

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
great.. that worked,
I had done exactly that yesterday but I found the .dat file in a different location.
where you said it was worked perfectly... at first it would not let me modify it, but a little creative re-naming and moving around and I got the modifed file where it belongs.
I added the line for msn messenger also - msnmsgr.exe and now it scrolls there also.

Great finding! You have just made my work on my ThinkPad much more comfortable!gigafloppen wrote:Open folder C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
I just seems far to easy... I wonder why most people have to wait for years for updates for these types of things?
I have sent comments to Windows Live team over and over about TP scrolling ... and never any help.
As it turns out, you certainly do not need to be a computer geek or programmer to fix the issue.

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
That´s rather an issue with the Lenovo software, not M$. I believe the updates of the synaptics pointing device driver also extend the list of applications supporting synaptics scrolling (or rather supported by synaptics scrolling). But I agree it would have been much easier for many of us if Lenovo has explicitly posted this tweak on their website...

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
even easier again if they just make it work like any old wheel mouse does.....
Now... my brother's R500 has the same issue, but there is no such folder with that file.
any idea how to get it working on an R500?

Re: W500 and trackpoint scrolling
AFAIK, R500 uses synaptics as well, so I would simply look for a file with the same name within Program Files -> Synaptics.
