#1 Post by fkelly » Wed Mar 11, 2009 3:39 pm

My laptop is going in for repair to the repair center. Do I need remove my harddrive. I recall reading somewhere that it was advised to remove it.

Any thoughts on this. Thanks in advance,

If your harddrive is not part of the problem, I highly recommend to remove it. Because then only you have access to your harddrive and its information. Another argument for removing harddrives is that hdds usually are not so happy being moved. They may not be damaged but show you their unhappyness by tending more and more louder.

It's not a requirement but as ssd_thinkpad says, it's a good idea as long as you're sure the HD isn't the cause of the problem. IMO the data on your HD is the most valuable part of your ThinkPad. I wouldn't take any risks with it.

BTW you should also remove any passwords you may have set in the BIOS before returning the ThinkPad.

What about when the issue is PEBCAK? ;)

Sent my lappie in on Wednesday and received it back early this morning. In the initial shipping box there is instructions on what you can/can't should/shouldn't ship.

I removed the battery and that was it.

Kudos to the repair team, they fixed what was broken and turned it rather quickly via UPS overnight.
