x40 ram upgrade - is pc2700 better than pc2100?

#1 Post by yeeking » Thu Mar 12, 2009 7:15 am

Hello there!

I'll put the question first:

Can the X40 make use of the faster speed of pc2700 or will it be the same as pc2100?

I have bought a second hand X40 for £130 as I needed a lightweight traveler and it's more my style than some cheapo netbook ... and it matches the t400 ... The hard drive is a bit clicky but an ubuntu install went ok. Should I worry? the 8 cell battery lasts 2.5 hours, which is pretty good for the age.

It has 512 meg on board but i want to stick 1gb more in there. I note that on the detailed specification from IBM/Lenovo it says it can use pc2100 or pc2700. I have a 1gb pc2100 stick in an old powerbook and would rather keep the budget low and use that.

cheers

Matthew

Use the old PC2100 stick will degrade performance a little but it should work. X40 is designed to use PC2700.

I'm not an X40 user, but I wouldn't mix RAM speeds. RAM is cheap enough these days, get what you want, or add in a suitable complement to what's already installed.
