The one that are in red outline. I've try google them, but nothing turn up even close-w/ or w/out the squiggly. The best clue is that it has something to do w/ Rescue n Recovery, the 2 "SS" was the giveaway.

Annoying! What do they do and is it wise to keep them disabled permanently? And how so, or config/disable service?

RRSERV~1 is Rescue & Recovery backup
RRPSER~1 is also something to do with R&R
TPHDEXLG is ThinkVantage Active Protection System - HDD Logger Module
TVT_RE~1 is something to do with ThinkVantage Registry

I have no idea what A2SERV~1 is. However, if you use the search facility in Windows and right click on the result you can look at Properties and then Version. It should tell you what the program is.

Yes, especially the Active Protection System one. If you use the corresponding applications (Rescue&Recovery), I think you will be better off to leave these .exe-s running in order to assure the proper work of the application. If you don´t use R&R, then simply uninstall it. Besides, there are faster alternatives to R&R (though not freeware).

Maybe the OP can be troubled and do some work of his/her own. How difficult is it to use google to search for "A2SERV~1"?

The site I use to check processes is http://www.processlibrary.com/. It's pretty handy.

... alternatively, and simpler (translating to smarter for lazy people such as I!) use the first-class, free Sysinternals/Microsoft tool: Process Explorer and right-click on any process... and select from the pop-up menu e.g. "Search Online" and bing! Google will tell you what the specific process is. Of course, you may also find out this in a more manual way, using another free Sysinternals/Microsoft tool: Autoruns for Windows v9.39. Both these are truly outstanding tools... highly recommended!

Finally/additionally the tool by BlackViper --> Windows XP x86 (32-bit) Service Pack 3 Service Configurations is also very useful if wanting to optimize Windows... by disabling unnecessary services and other auto-started programs.

Johan, great recommendations! I have to admit I have never spotted the "search online" feature of Process Explorer  Regarding Autoruns, this utility can vastly optimize the startup behavior of windows but this would require quite a lot of knowledge and also time to go through all the entries (despite the grouping). BTW, it´s also very useful to fight malware if one can find the corresponding components.
