T41 stops booting

#1 Post by experience » Mon Mar 16, 2009 3:56 am

Hello everyone,

i got a Thinkpad T41 from a friend with one strange problem:

The Notebook freezes at the "Initializing Intel Boot Agent" Screen.
I cant get into the BIOS Setup or into the Boot Device List
The Access IBM Button don't work.

I testet without HDD, CDRW, Modem Cards etc.
I also tried a other CPU, Dimms...

The Board was also beeing reflowed.

Anyone got an Idea?

Thanks.

"Initializing Intel Boot Agent" would come up after the BIOS/boot splash screen has passed. Are you saying that if you hold down the F1 key and power on the machine that it will not go into BIOS? If not, then that's a basic hardware problem ... RAM, keyboard, systemboard, some other connected card or component, .e.g. modem, mPCI wifi card. If the board was reflowed it could have cooked any number of components on the systemboard during the process. Not to mention potential error on reassembly.

That is the system that allows you to boot from the network, so what you can try is when you start it, press F12, and select the hard drive from the list (I think that it starts with Atpi0...) or something like that. This should bypass attempting to start from the network.

Thanks for the answers.

The Device List (F12) doesent show... the notebook still freezes at "Preparing Boot Device List".
The same is when i press F1 for the BIOS or the blue Access IBM Button.

I have testet some other Ram, without W-Lan Card etc.

I've read something about the ADP3205 DC/DC Converter for the CPU.

I think its the BIOS IC, a friend of me will send me a new one with the TPM chip.
