Firewire connection between computers - which cable?

#1 Post by miggy » Tue Mar 17, 2009 1:16 am

I'd like to set up a firewire connection between my desktop PC (SB Audigy soundcard w/ Firewire port) and X32 (built-in Firewire port). Which cable should I get? There are "4 to 4", "4 to 6", "6 to 6" firewire cables available...

Which ever one fits :D

But seriously, the X31/32 need a 4 pin connector. What does your Pc require ?

There is a 6-circuit firewire port in Audigy soundcard, slightly bigger than the 4-circuit one in X32. I guess - "4 to 6" - am I right? :)

The extra 2 connections are for power

A 4 to 6 connector is the one you need.

Just curious, once you have this done, ... then what? I put a Firewire 800 card in my Dock II, but only use it for Sony Handycam captures.

If you get a 4 to 4 Firewire you can go Thinkpad to Thinkpad....assuming they both have firewire ports.
