Thinkpad R60 - lost BIOS password (bootable via fingerprint)

#1 Post by Nullifier » Tue Mar 17, 2009 8:16 am

Hello,

i have a little problem with my thinkpad r60. because i have to send the thinkpad to ibm i want to reset my passwords. but i don't remember the bios password, and the paper where it was noted somehow got wet and is unreadable. i can override bios and harddisk password via fingerprint, so i am able to boot into windows xp/vista.

are there any possibilities to reset the passwords ?

thanks

A BIOS password (Power On Password or POP) can be eliminated by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes.

If you also have a Supervisor password set, and you forgot it, the standard way is to replace the motherboard.
Any further discussion on Supervisor PWs is not allowed in this forum.

If you lose your HD password, you have a doorstopper, there is NO way to reset this.
You are lucky that you can override [or have set] this with your fingerprint reader.
You should remove the HD before you send it in anyway.

IBM cannaot remove the supervisor password. If you have the supervisor password, you can remove the POP and also erase the fingerprint stuff.
