Trackpoint problem after hibernation

#1 Post by armein » Wed Jan 26, 2005 4:18 pm

I have an X31 2672C8G. In the last week or so there's been a problem after hibernation. The trackpoint still works to move the pointer around the screen, but won't perform 'click' or 'double-click' functions. If I restart it works fine until the machine hibernates. I've tried the troubleshooting stuff from the IBM site, but it can't find anything wrong. Has anyone else had this problem, and do you have any suggestions?

Windows Update?

#2 Post by hkhalil » Wed Jan 26, 2005 7:55 pm

Hi Armein,

I notice that you say this only started happening a week or so ago. It's a long shot but...If I recall correctly; recently on windows update there was a driver update that had something to do with the trackpoint.

It could be something to do with that. There was a topic not long ago where people were discussing the pros and cons of using Windows Update for TP driver updates.

Some people had problems, some didn't. Like I said.. It's a long shot. Maybe you could check in Device Manager under the IBM/PS2 TRACKPOINT device and see if that tells you anything. I would guess that if you have the option to roll back the driver; it would mean that there was at least one prior version than the one you're using now.

I have a X31 2672C2G and my driver is 3.13.0.0 date 04/08/2004 and seems to be OK coming out of standby and hibernate.

I hope this helps. Sorry if it's a wild-goose-chase, perhaps someone else who has had this problem will reply. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I hadn't properly updated the driver to 3.13.0.0 when I tried to fix it before. Unfortunately, the problem hasn't gone away whichever driver I have installed! I remain puzzled.

Hmmm

Oh well... :?

The only other thing that springs to mind is a similar issue I had with hibernation, but it affected the Fn F3 & F5 commands. They just didn't work after a suspend or hibernate.

I don't know for sure if it's what fixed it; however, reinstaling the IBM Specific driver for the Power Management did the trick. Now for sure there was a newer one available via Windows Update (I think it's there as IBM PM Driver), but I'm sticking with the version from IBM's website.

On a similar note; you might want to try running the IBM Software Installer (forgive me if you've done all this) as mine sometimes shows items unchecked for whatever reason. Maybe something there might bring you closer to an answer.

Best of luck, hkhalil
