t41 new hard drive

#1 Post by coffmug » Wed Mar 18, 2009 4:44 pm

Hello, new to the forum. I have a t41 without a hard drive. I would like to put in the largest and fastest possible. I've have conflicting opinions on the ability to put in a Hdd larger than 80 at 5400 rpm as the bios won't recongize it. I've heard that any sata ide drive will work, and am looking at a 160gb 7200rpm fujitsu. I have the installation disks. Just trying to get this up and running fast at a resonable price. Thanks for any advise
Thanks
Coffmug

SATA drives will not work and there is no size limit. You need a 2.5" IDE laptop hard drive, aka ATA6. I'll make it easy for you. Any of the drives at the following links will work;

I have a 160Gb 5400rpm drive in my T41. Unfortunately, the ATA6 7200rpm drives are no longer available.

Welcome to the forum, coffmuf!

If you want more information on your options (incl. user feedback), I suggest you see the recent thread on this forum: will this hard drive work with my t42. Beware that you will need to have Service Pack 2 (or SP3) installed, if you are running Win XP Pro and wish to use HDD's above 137 GB.

They are still available as in people have them (even new), but will cost you a pretty penny. PM me if you are interested.
